FAQ

Aluminium features high reflectivity, excellent thermal conductivity, and a tendency to oxidize, which place higher demands on welding equipment and process control. Professional aluminum laser welding machines use high-performance lasers, intelligent control systems, and optimized welding parameters to achieve stable, high-quality aluminum welding.

In addition to aluminium and aluminium alloys, this laser welding machine can also weld stainless steel, carbon steel, galvanized steel, copper, brass, titanium alloys, and other metal materials.

Aluminium is prone to oxidation during welding because it reacts easily with oxygen. Using proper shielding gas, such as argon (Ar), can effectively reduce oxidation and improve weld appearance.

Shielding gas is a key factor affecting aluminium laser welding quality. Different shielding gases are suitable for different aluminium thicknesses. Proper gas selection helps improve weld formation, reduce defects, and ensure stable welding performance. The recommended assist gases for different thicknesses are as follows:

Welding Requirement Recommended Shielding Gas
Thin Aluminium (≤3 mm) 100% Argon (Ar)
Medium-Thickness Aluminium (3–8 mm) 100% Argon (Ar) or Argon/Helium (Ar/He) Gas Mixture
Thick Aluminium (≥8 mm) Argon/Helium (Ar/He) Gas Mixture or 100% Helium (He)

In many applications, aluminum laser welding can replace traditional welding methods. Compared with TIG/MIG welding, laser welding offers higher welding speeds, lower heat input, less deformation, and better compatibility with automation, making it especially suitable for high-volume production and high-precision aluminum fabrication.

It depends on the aluminium thickness and the specific welding application. For thin aluminium sheets with good joint fit-up, laser welding can usually be performed without filler wire. For thicker materials or applications requiring stronger welds, a wire feeder can be used to add filler wire and improve weld strength and consistency.

Shielding gas helps isolate the weld pool from air, reducing oxidation, porosity, and other welding defects during aluminum welding. It also improves melt pool stability and ensures higher-quality, more consistent welds.

The key factors affecting welding quality include laser power, welding speed, focus position, shielding gas type and flow rate, and material surface condition. By properly optimizing welding parameters, the machine can achieve better weld quality, higher consistency, and more stable processing performance.

Daily maintenance includes:

  • Regular cleaning of the protective lens
  • Checking the welding gun and optical components
  • Maintaining a stable gas supply system
  • Regular inspection of the cooling system
  • Performing equipment calibration as required

Proper maintenance can extend the machine’s service life and help maintain consistent welding performance.
